Smiles Treats Missiles
Families face love, negotiators, and super kids in a special loving way.
A mother smilingly introduces me to her teenage daughter in a wheelchair. Her daughter had the most genuine smile. It beats the rest of the smiles I have ever seen. Forward a couple of years, this mother told me that she used to break down almost every day watching her daughter, whom God made her this way.
I was stunned when the teenage daughter understood every word we uttered and responded with a smile. Love was pouring out of her smile. Her eyes and smile said it all. No words uttered by her! She had Down’s syndrome. Her mother told me it took her many years to accept her daughter’s condition. Finally, the mother realized and started returning her daughter’s smiles.
It was a moment of pure bliss to see the smiles of both the mother and the daughter. To this day, I have not forgotten the innocent daughter’s precious smile. She was communicating with her smiles and eyes. No words!
Typical Halloween day, we accompany kids to trick-or-treat. Back at home later, the kids pile the treats and feast. Buzzed with sugar, the kids entertain with uncontrollable laughter or crazy crankiness. At some point, the parents request the kids to stow away the treats and resume normalcy.
