The bond between us
You are not my birth mother
Why do you cry a river*?

God placed you in my lap
Before he gave me my own
Forever you are my child

  • *cry a river — Thank you, Thief, for teaching and letting me borrow this phrase from your poem — To Cry a River

I saw my best friend (my sister) and her child this weekend after many years. When he was four, her adult child watched cartoons and used my lap as the couch. This brilliant child, who is mine too, brings back many memories, and my genius sister is a fantastic mother, and any day, I cannot fill her shoes. These words do not do justice to our special mother-child bond and my sister.

This poem is just my imagination of what my friend’s child would have asked me if I had cried a river!

Thank you so much for reading. You are much appreciated!
